Bindery Services

The Wide Awake Garage (WAG) is Daniel Kelm’s bindery where he designs and produces artist’s books, interpretive fine bindings, and book sculptures.

In addition to creating his own projects he offers consultations, bindery services, and rental of his studio and equipment.

Daniel and his crew, the mechanics, can be engaged to bind individual books as well as editions.

Artists and publishers often come to the Garage for a negotiated period of time in order to gain the support of WAG personnel and access to the facilities.

A popular arrangement for artists and binders is to have two or three hours of consultation and instruction in the morning, then use the Garage facilities for the remainder of the day to work on production of a project. You may wish to do the entire production yourself, or if your time is limited you may want the help of the crew.

Consultations sometimes include helping an artist create a prototype binding that she or he will use as a model for an edition bound elsewhere.

Daniel is happy to set you up for production by creating jigs and training you in efficient and effective binding practices.
