abette has designed this workshop in order to give you basic information concerning the mending of paper with Japanese tissue. You will also learn about the use of starch pastes, and the manufacturing of tissue.

Babette will demonstrate how to make paste; surface clean paper; and mend tears with various Japanese papers. Making in situ or edge repairs, guarding signatures, and lining damaged sheets will also be covered.

You will have the opportunity to practice the various repair and cleaning methods, and get Babette’s feedback.

Please bring books and paper artifacts to work on. These are intended for practice, and shouldn’t have any real value.

No previous experience is necessary.
