
Dan Essig is a full time studio artist in Asheville, North Carolina. In addition to exhibiting nationally at many craft shows, including the Philadelphia Museum Show, Crafts Boston, and the Smithsonian Museum Show, he teaches numerous book workshops. Dan's interest in book arts grew from his introduction to handmade books while he was studying photography at the University of Illinois. This interest flourished into a career while Dan attended Penland School of Crafts.
Dan is a member of Ariel Gallery, a contemporary craft cooperative in downtown Asheville. His current work is featured in 2004 Lark Book Publications, The Nature and Craft of the Penland Experience, and The Penland Book of Handmade Books.
