Bonnie Stahlecker’s books have been described as “image condensed as object.” Her recent work often uses her poetry in combination with full-page intaglio images. While the early work was more sculptural, the current books are bound traditionally, yet with contemporary quirks. Her work has been exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions including Built by Hand: The Book as Art, Washington, DC, and Suave Mechanicals: Early to Modern Binding Styles, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her work is in many publications, including “The Penland Book of Handmade Books.”
Bonnie has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. Among the many sites at which she has conducted workshops are the MCBA, Minneapolis, MN; Oregon College of Arts and Crafts, Portland, OR; Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Deer Isle, Maine and Penland School, Penland, NC.
